Answers to Common Questions

Questions, Answered.

Everything you normally have to DM Syd to ask — from appointment prep and pricing to maintenance intervals and studio policies.

What service should I book?+

Use our guided 'Find Your Formula' selector or browse the Services page. If you are doing a big change, correcting box dye, or trying vivids for the first time, book a Consultation — that's exactly what it's for.

Do you accept new clients?+

Yes! New clients are warmly welcomed at The Hair Apothecary. Start by reviewing our New Client Guide to understand how the process works.

Do I need a consultation first?+

For major transformations, dramatic color changes (going from dark to light), corrective color, or first-time vivids, yes. For haircuts or maintenance refreshes of existing color, you can book directly on Vagaro.

Can I bring inspiration photos?+

Please do! Bring photos in natural daylight of your current hair, plus 2-4 inspiration images — including ones you don't like so Syd knows what to avoid.

How much will my hair cost?+

Pricing depends on your hair's starting canvas, length, density, chemical history, and end goal. Current starting rates live on Syd's Vagaro booking page, and exact quotes are given during consultations.

Can I go blonde or copper in one session?+

Sometimes. Major lifts may take multiple appointments to preserve hair health and structural integrity. Syd will tell you honestly during your consultation.

Do you do corrective color?+

Yes — color correction is a specialty. Corrective work begins with an in-person consultation and strand test so the plan protects your hair.

How do I maintain copper hair in Bakersfield heat?+

Cool-water washing, sulfate-free color-safe shampoo, UV heat protectants, and a gloss refresh every 6–8 weeks keep copper tones luminous.

How do I maintain vivid and alternative color?+

Cold-water rinses, fewer wash days per week, color-depositing conditioners, and regular gloss refreshes prevent premature pigment fade.

Should I wash my hair before my appointment?+

Wash your hair 24 to 48 hours prior. Avoid excessive dry shampoo, root cover-up powders, or heavy waxes on appointment day.

Where is the studio located and where should I park?+

The Hair Apothecary is located at 4808 Planz Road, Suite 1, Bakersfield, CA 93309. The studio features abundant free on-site parking directly in front of Suite 1 with accessible spaces.

Can I bring my children or guests to my appointment?+

To ensure a quiet, relaxing adult sanctuary and for safety around chemical formulations and hot tools, The Hair Apothecary has a strict No Kids and solo-client policy. Extra guests and children are not permitted in the styling studio.

What amenities are provided in the studio?+

We provide complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi, a stocked snack bar with beverages and snacks, step-free disabled / wheelchair access with ADA restroom, abundant free parking, and an LGBTQIA+ friendly and affirming space.

Do you offer Spa treatments, Braids, Locs, and Hair Extensions?+

Yes! In addition to signature red, copper, gray coverage, and vivid hair coloring, The Hair Apothecary's service suite encompasses Hair Extensions, Braids, Locs, and restorative Spa treatments. Check our Vagaro booking page for currently scheduled availability.

What is your cancellation and rescheduling policy?+

We request at least 48 hours' notice for cancellations or rescheduling to allow clients on our waitlist to book. Full policy details are on our Policies page.
